Technology drives a business and help management make a strategic goals. It is up to management to develop strategies to gain a competitive edge, and use technology to execute these strategies. Throughout my career I have seen companies spend tons of money on technology without having a well thought out plan, thinking that having the latest and greatest would increase business and give them a competitive edge.
The result of this mindset did not have a positive impact on these companies. In fact, these companies were finding that they were losing money because they were in over their head and could not support or manage the technology they purchased. 9 times out of 10 these companies ended up not using the technology they invested in.
